Some animals survived the ice age with little or no physiological changes, such as hippos, crocodiles, wild dogs. But nowadays, many animals had suffered all the vicissitudes of evolution, are on the verge of extinction. Thus, the once numerous tribe rhinos survived only five species, and elephants, inhabited in the past, all the continents except Antarctica and Australia, now inhabited only by Africa and South and South-East Asia.
